TULOU Green Initiatives - Small Steps Towards a Renewable Energy Company (Part 1)
To achieve sustainability and to contribute positively to preserving the environment, we need strong corporate governance and responsible sourcing. As one of Singapore’s leading timber decking provider, TULOU has a duty to contribute to the nation’s long-term economic, social and environmental well-being. We also recognise that good corporate governance is essential for embedding sustainable business practices across the Company. This long-term, responsible approach is central to our business strategies and activities.
We are also taking small and sustainable steps to align ourselves to the Singapore Green Plan 2030. The Green Plan charts ambitious and concrete targets over the next 10 years, strengthening Singapore’s commitments under the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and Paris Agreement, and positioning Singapore to achieve her long-term net zero emissions aspiration by 2050. The Green Plan comprises of 5 pillars that will influence all aspects of our lives: City in Nature; Energy Reset; Sustainable Living; Green Economy; Resilient Future.
Our strategy is two dimension: Our Sources and Our Corporate Governance. These strategies will align with The Green Plan under “Energy Reset“.
Today, we will share with you our first strategy: Our Sources.
1. Waste Management
In TULOU, we partner many sources from a variety of countries. Other than enjoying the benefits of undisrupted supplies of materials and services, we are also able to select partners that have green initiatives aligned to ours. One of the resources that our manufacturers utilise is recycled polymer. Our manufacturers ensure that ninety nine percent of production wastes are recycled for new production. Every year, about 3,000 tonnes are recycled. This is equivalent to annual trash generated by 1,500 households. We are committed to use sources that are unwavering in their pursuit of zero waste.
2. Energy Management
33,000 pieces of solar panels were invested and equipped in the manufacturing facility of our source. They cover more than 88,000 m2 of space and generated more than 5.4 million kilowatts of green energy annually. With this installation, we can avoid emitting more than 3.7 million kilograms of CO2 and 2.5 million kilograms of SO2. TULOU continues to appoint sources that are are carbon neutral.
3. Water Efficiency
Closed-circulated waster cooling systems are deployed in the manufacturing process. Without this system, more than 1,000 tonnes of water will be used each day. This is equivalent to providing more than 7,000 individuals in Singapore (Source: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/household-water-consumption-falls-to-pre-pandemic-levels-in-2023). With hundreds of extrusion lines in the manufacturing facility operating at the same time, cooling requires plenty of water.
In conclusion, we hope to do our part in becoming more sustainable in our business and thereby preserving nature’s resources. It is our first steps and we need your support!
